Tires

Two problems solved in one:

1. Tires are expensive.
2. Some tires are hard to come by. Especially 12" tires. They've apparently been discontinued.

The one solution: the local wrecking yard.

We needed new tires desperately on our tiny Geo that takes tiny 12" tires. We couldn't find anyone who had them in stock, and we couldn't even find anyone who could find them available for special order. We live in a small town, and couldn't drive these bald tires to the next town to find tires. So we went to the wrecking yard, where we found four tires for $100. Two of them are brand-spanking-new, with the stickers still on. (Ordering them from the local tire place, even if they had been available, would have been $65 a piece.) Now, add on the $12/a piece for mounting, and we're still way below the cost of buying them at the tire store. And we were able to find the right size.

Our only other option would have been to buy 13" tires with new rims, which would have cost even more. Yeah, the wrecking yard is the way to go. Next time, we'll look for a new handle for the door.
